ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Hospital Marks 20 Years of Training Iraqi Pediatric Doctors

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø was pleased to welcome Mr. Pewan Jasim Ibrahim ZAWITAI, Charg¨¦ d’Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Iraq to Japan, to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Hospital on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024. His visit was in celebration of 20 years of partnership between ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Hospital and the NGO Save Iraqi Children Nagoya, which assists Iraqi doctors in visiting Japan to receive advanced medical training and improve pediatric care in Iraq.

Following repeated conflicts in the Middle East in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Iraq found itself with much of its previously advanced medical infrastructure lost, and many of its doctors having emigrated to other countries. Save Iraqi Children Nagoya began cooperating with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in 2004, facilitating Iraqi doctors’ visits to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Hospital to receive advanced training in medical procedures which would benefit their pediatric patients.

To mark the 20th anniversary of this remarkable partnership, Mr. ZAWITAI, Charg¨¦ d’Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Iraq to Japan, paid a visit to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Hospital. He was given a tour of the neonatal intensive care and pediatric wards, where visiting Iraqi doctors have received their training. He met with hospital director, Dr Shoichi Maruyama, and representatives from the pediatric and cardiology departments. Also present was Dr. Zaid Mohammed Abdulwahhab AL-NOORI, who is currently receiving training at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Hospital.

As a national university, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø recognizes its duty to give back to society and to the wider world. We look forward to welcoming more doctors to our hospital in the future, in partnership with Save Iraqi Children Nagoya, to further improve the lives of children in Iraq.
