On Friday, April 25, Chancellor Seiichi Matsuo of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System, President Naoshi Sugiyama of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (participating online), and President Kazuhiro Yoshida of Gifu University, along with other representatives from the universities, visited the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Tokyo to discuss the current status of each university’s Joint Degree Programs (JDP) with partner institutions overseas.
Chancellor Matsuo introduced the unique characteristics of the JDPs at both universities and outlined the efforts of the Interuniversity JDP Council of Japan, which is presided over by Gifu University with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø serving as vice-president. He also expressed appreciation for the ministry’s continued support. Following this, Presidents Sugiyama and Yoshida each presented an overview of their respective university’s JDPs. The participants then exchanged views on the outcomes achieved so far, current challenges, and future developments of these programs.
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø conveyed to Minister Toshiko Abe its commitment to promote the JDP initiative in collaboration with MEXT, the Japan Association of National Universities, and other institutions.
Earlier on the same day, Chancellor Matsuo, together with Hiroyuki Koyama, President of the Interuniversity JDP Council of Japan and Executive Director of the Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL), submitted a written request on behalf of the council to Director-General Gakuji It¨ of the Higher Education Bureau at MEXT.
