Special Lecture: Mobility Innovation – Social implementation of autonomous driving and advanced technologies /news/events/special-lecture-mobility-innovation-social-implementation-of-autonomous-driving-and-advanced-technologies/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 05:25:56 +0000 /?post_type=events&p=8368 Technological innovations in sensors and AI are enabling the implementation of advanced technologies such as autonomous driving in automobiles. For achieving social implementation, not only technological advancements of performance but also cost reduction and improved reliability are required. Furthermore, the establishment of rules, including regulatory design, and fostering social acceptance among users and traffic participants are also necessary. Autonomous driving itself is a means, not an end. In a mobility society, there is a need to build an ecosystem with the aim of further improving safety, solving driver shortages problem in public transportation systems such as buses, and ensuring mobility in rural areas.

This lecture provides an overview of the efforts of academia, the automotive industry, transportation operators, and the government in Japan over the past decade and introduces future trends in autonomous driving mobility services.

98th ISEE/CICR Colloquium: Expanding diagnostic capabilities of Super Dual Auroral Radar Network /news/events/98th-isee-cicr-colloquium-expanding-diagnostic-capabilities-of-super-dual-auroral-radar-network/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 01:22:19 +0000 /?post_type=events&p=8333 Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN) consists of high-frequency (10-18 MHz) over-the-horizon radars utilizing backscatter from decameter ionospheric irregularities for mapping ionospheric drifts generated by solar wind interactions with the Earth鈥檚 magnetosphere and ionosphere. During its 30-year history, SuperDARN has grown from just a few auroral radars to 40+ installations covering mid to polar cap latitudes. While the conventional network operations remain essentially unchanged, the accumulated knowledge about HF propagation at high latitudes and SuperDARN data analysis details, in combination with advancements in hardware design and computing/data storage capacity, provides a fertile background for exploring and implementing novel operational regimes and diagnostics.

In this talk, following a brief introduction to SuperDARN principles and operations, the speaker will describe different aspects of expanding the network鈥檚 diagnostic capabilities within the last two decades. The topics will cover improvements in data quality, geolocation accuracy, spatial coverage, and temporal resolution; extended ionospheric and ground surface diagnostics; advanced beamforming and multi-static operations; etc., followed by a brief discussion on future plans.

Aging in the Community International Symposium /news/events/aging-in-the-community-international-symposium/ Mon, 09 Feb 2026 07:24:34 +0000 /?post_type=events&p=7560

The Graduate School of Medicine, 黑料吃瓜网, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC鈥揅hapel Hill) have been actively promoting research and educational exchange with a focus on geriatric medicine and community-based care.

In 2025, the two institutions jointly hosted the U.S.鈥揓apan symposium 鈥淎ging and the Family鈥 at UNC, bringing together experts from a wide range of disciplines including medicine, nursing, public health, and social welfare to discuss approaches to supporting older adults in super-aging societies.

As the second phase of this collaboration, 黑料吃瓜网 will host the 鈥淎ging in the Community International Symposium.鈥

Through sharing practical experiences from Japan鈥檚 community-based integrated care system and insights from clinical and care settings, the symposium aims to foster the next step in collaborative research and educational partnerships between Japan and the United States, addressing challenges common to both societies.

Aims

As populations age rapidly in many countries around the world, strengthening healthcare, long-term care, prevention, and social resources to support older adults within their communities has become an urgent global challenge.

In Japan in particular, efforts to better integrate medical care and community-based support are being continuously advanced, including the promotion of community-based integrated care systems, the use of digital health, frailty and dementia prevention, and end-of-life care.

This symposium brings together experts from Japan and the United States, centered on 黑料吃瓜网 and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, to discuss Aging in the Community from research, educational, and clinical perspectives.

By transcending differences in national systems and cultural contexts, the symposium aims to generate practical, implementable ideas and foster new opportunities for collaboration.
