Three ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Professors to Receive Awards from Inoue Foundation for Science

Professor Takashi Ooi of the Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, has been chosen to receive the 30th Inoue Prize for Science (FY2013), according to an announcement by the Inoue Foundation for Science. This award is given to researchers under the age of 50 who have achieved remarkable results in the fundamental study of natural science. The subject of Professor Ooi’s award-winning research is "Molecular Design and Synthetic Applications of Organic Ion-Pair Catalysts."

Meanwhile, Assistant Professor Haruka Omachi of the Research Center for Materials Science, as well as Designated Assistant Professor Masakazu Nambo of the Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules, both at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, have been chosen to win the 30th Inoue Research Award for Young Scientists. This award is given to young researchers under the age of 35 who have completed a doctoral degree in natural science within the past three years (or those under the age of 37 who have completed a doctoral degree in medicine, dentistry, or veterinary science) and submitted a prominent doctoral thesis. The subjects of the award-winning research projects are "Bottom-up Synthesis of Carbon Nanorings and Carbon Nanotubes" (Assist. Prof. Omachi) and "Chemical Modification of Fullerenes through Molecular Catalysis" (Assist. Prof. Nambo).
